
Brian Klaas is an Associate Professor of Global Politics at University College London (UCL), a columnist for The Washington Post, and a regular contributor to The Atlantic. He is also a television commentator, political consultant, and host of the podcast Power Corrupts. Throughout his academic career, he has held positions at the London School of Economics (LSE) and the University of Oxford. His research and analysis focus on democracy, authoritarianism, political power, and U.S. foreign policy. He is the author of several notable books, including The Despot’s Apprentice: Donald Trump’s Attack on Democracy, The Despot’s Accomplice: How the West is Aiding & Abetting the Decline of Democracy, How to Rig an Election, and his most recent book, Fluke: Chance, Chaos, and Why Everything We Do Matters. As a consultant and strategist, he has advised political campaigns in the United States, as well as international organizations including NATO and the European Union. He has also worked with investors, non-governmental organizations, and political leaders from different countries. Internationally recognized for his ability to make complex issues in global politics accessible, Brian Klaas is one of the most influential voices in contemporary analysis of democracy, authoritarianism, and the dynamics of power.
