Full Professor at NOVA IMS — Nova Information Management School, where his research focuses on machine learning, data science, complex systems and evolutionary computation. With over 300 scientific publications — more than 100 in high-impact journals — and approximately 9,000 citations, he is an internationally recognised authority in machine learning and artificial intelligence. Ten of his publications have received international awards, and in 2015 he was honoured with the Award for Outstanding Contributions to Evolutionary Computation in Europe. His applied work spans computational biology, personalised medicine, image processing, economics and logistics.
